From 13 to 14 December, the FIC pavilion in São Vicente will host the 1st edition of the Barlavento Micro and Small Business Fair. Promoted by Facetur, the fair aims to be a "showcase" for micro and small businesses that find it difficult to take part in the country's major trade fairs.

At a press conference held today in Mindelo, Sara Lopes, from Facetur, the event's promoter, said that the fair is aimed at sectors that are considered emerging and strategic for the country.

"For example, agribusiness, the digital economy, tourism, renewable energies, innovation and technologies, and light industry. The fair represents a unique opportunity for exhibitors to publicise their products and future projects," he points out.

According to the organisers, the fair's programme is diverse, with exhibitions/sales, technical conferences and B2B meetings.

"The event includes a differentiated programme with bilateral business meetings and technical conferences. The general nature of the fair means that it is open to various areas of activity or business, but Facetur's aim is to encourage the participation of emerging and strategic sectors for Cape Verde."

According to Sara Lopes, the invitation dossier for participation in the event should be delivered next week at the latest. The organisation expects around 50 exhibitors from all the islands of the Barlavento to take part.

The Barlavento Micro and Small Business Fair will be held annually and rotate between the islands. After São Vicente, it will be the turn of the island of Santo Antão to host the event next year.
